Thunderbird Upgrade
I put a set of these (8k neck, 9.2K bridge) into a Tokai MIK Thunderbird. Other upgrades at the same time: Electronics - 500kohm x2 Vol and 250Kohm tone; .047uF 'dime' cap; Bass tune-o-matic style bridge Please note on this bass the pick-ups are not drop-ins. The pickup routes had to be widened by #1/8" (3mm), this was removed from the neck side of both slots (from the measurements of my pre-install research, this puts the neck pick-up in the same position as a 64 bird). Although the original manufacturer's pickups are longer than these, the pickup rings (also in this listing) cover the longer routes when positioned with care. Very happy with the results, the bass now has those classic Thunderbird tones when played through my Ampeg combo (reminding me of Entwistle on Quadrophenia). With the tone fully open, there are those big deep, clear but warm, familiar Thunderbird sounds that got me into playing tb's years ago. Yet if I back off the tome to about 5 the classic Thunderbird growl comes through. Looks wise (IMHO) these look great, capturing the 60's style vintage look. I do prefer the chrome over the modern black pickups. In short I'm very happy with these pickups, and hope to use them again in another upgrade project soon.
